Safe Horse Auction and Equine Fair

Whether you own a horse, need to sell a horse or just love horses! The Safe Horse Project & Equine Fair has something for everyone. Horses will be offered for sale by owner or available for adoption through rescue organizations – many beautiful horses will be hoping to find the perfect home.

Horses will be available to view beginning at 9 am with the silent auction starting at 1 pm ending at 4 pm. Buyer screening and owner matching methods are offered similar to those used by rescue organizations, trainer evaluations, owner education, ongoing guidance, and training clinics conducted with new owners after the horse is in its new home. Enjoy a silent auction of items donated by local artists and merchants, equine exhibits, a used tack and consignment sale and pony rides! Bidding on silent auction items begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit horses in need.

There will be a full day of trainer demos and presentations by equine specialists on topics such as: “What you should know before buying a horse”; “The importance of equine nutrition”; “Basic horse safety”; “Speaking horse”. Event Schedule






Available on-site at discretion of buyers or sellers: Unique freeze brand, Microchip with NIP registry, Veterinary consultation, Equine dentist, Farrier, Trainer evaluation.

To enter your horse in the auction you must register your horse with the Safe Horse Auction and have a current coggins. Horses must be healthy, able to be handled and sound. Horses that don’t meet these criteria can be entered into the Horse Plus Humane Society’s 1-Day Open Door Shelter on Sunday.

No horse will be refused, no matter its condition.

We Have 3 Goals:

  1. Preventing horses from ending up in the wrong hands.
  2. Help adoptable horses find loving homes.
  3. Offering humane euthanasia to suffering horses when their owners cannot afford the high cost of euthanasia and disposal.


All surrendered horses will be evaluated for quality of life by Dr. Donnie Vice of Dixie Equine Medicine & Surgery. Adoptable horses will be placed into adoption programs with approved adoption partners: Mississippi Horses, MS Animal Rescue League, Horse Plus Humane Society.

Horses can be brought in from out of state, please make sure you have the proper paperwork for traveling across state lines with your horse.If you have a horse you are planning on surrendering at this event please follow the link and fill out the form.
