The Diamond Project, administered in conjunction with Mississippi Horses Rescue (MHR), is for horses that do not fit the age, physical, emotional or behavioral profile to be successful in an intensive short-term training program, or who have prior training that disqualifies them from the Heart of the Horse Trainer Challenge. These horses' futures may be uncertain because they have no training, have holes in their training or just need retraining to find a new purpose and better future. There is no particular age restriction placed on Diamond Horses, as long as they are sound with a reasonable expectation that they will become serviceable riding horses if trained.
If you are a trainer with the heart to change the destiny of unwanted horses and the desire to polish a diamond in the rough until it shines, please consider taking on a Diamond Project horse as a Foster to Train/Adopt. This program is not a competition; the trainer determines when the Diamond Horse is ready for adoption anMHR approved home. Learn more about becoming a

Do you own a horse whose future is uncertain because it lacks training or needs a tune-up because it hasn't been ridden in years? We invite you to consider surrendering it to MHR to become a Diamond Project Horse. To apply online, see:
If you are searching for a new horse, consider a Diamond Project Horse! By adopting while the horse is still in the possession of its trainer, you will have the opportunity to work with that trainer to learn how to communicate with the horse in the same way it was trained. This helps ensure that the transition from trainer to you will be smooth. For more information visit
